I love Saturdays. I love that I can sleep in just a little later, I love that on Friday night I can stay up later and I love that I have another night to stay up later still!! While my favorite day of the week is Monday (love the "new" week feel), Saturday's always run a close second!

It's definitely fall weather here in Chicagoland. I love fall. I know, I've said it before, this year has been hard. I've not been wanting fall to arrive as much as I have in the past because right behind it comes winter..ugh! I so don't love winter. I hate winter. There, said it again! But, now that fall is here (a fact that I can't stop no matter how much whining I do), I am happy. I love to have the sun shining and the temps cool. I love to be able to wear a sweater with my jeans (even if it means giving up my barefoot status...only outdoors though..still a barefoot girl in the house), I love the colors, the smells and the holidays!

In honor of our upcoming festive time...Halloween...I want to share a picture with ya'll. Now, most of my life I was a girly girl...not over the top girly, but not a tomboy either. I liked girl stuff. I played with dolls, liked to wear dresses, couldn't wait to use make-up and carry a purse, but, it seems, there was also a part of me that liked the "guy" stuff. I remember wanting a set of Hot Wheels cars and a track so bad for Christmas, but alas, Santa never brought it (big sad face), I did have Matchbox cars though and a neat little case to carry and keep them in! I liked to play chase and kick the can and watch Batman. I wasn't much for getting dirty though..still don't like messy LOL!

Now, fast forward a lot of years and I am now a mom. I was so excited to have a girl, a daughter that I could dress up in pretty things, that would grow up and we would go get our hair and nails done, talk about boys, blah, blah, blah...I have the most wonderful daughter you could ask for, but, she is not a girly girl. Has no use for make-up, pink, frills, purses or the like. All of her life she has been content to wear sweats and t-shirts (now, trading those in for jeans and concert t-shirts). She wanted to play with Ninja Turtles and cars, not Barbie or dolls. I was secretly bummed over this...there flew out the window my "girl time" adventures with my daughter. It took me a lot of years to finally accept this, I have, and it's all good. As she has gotten older, the more girlie moments appear and I soak them in like sunlight! Just this past weekend she got herself all dolled up for the Homecoming dance..complete with a pair of heels AND a purse! But, I digress...sorry..so, you can imagine, having a child who likes all these things non-girly, wouldn't want to be a princess or cheerleader or Cinderella for Halloween...no, she wanted to be Batman! This was her calling for many years...and each year I would cringe at the thought of my little girl wanting to dress up like Batman! Okay, what is the point of this whole ramble of a story I'm telling you? Well, recently I have been going through stuff in my house...on a major cleaning binge..I want simple, I want less clutter, I want more organization and while on one of my cleans, I came across a photograph...it's a picture of my sister and I ready to head out for Trick or Treating. I was about 4 years old and my sister, bless her little heart, was about 2. Here I am, big sister, holding my little sisters hand, ready for a candy haul. Never mind that back in the day, we wore plastic Halloween costumes from Walgreen's or some discount type store...there were no elaborate type costumes and if there were, as little kids, they were not ones that my parents got for us. Nope, we wore those awful, hot, plastic masks that held over your face with just a little hole for eyes and nose/mouth by a string of elastic. I remember hating how they felt, but loving that I had a "cool" costume to wear! I ask you now to take a look at what I "was" that Halloween so many years ago!!!!

Damn!!! I was...BATMAN!!!!! I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree huh? LOL

so, there you have it. No wonder my little girl wanted to be Batman. I guess she was just genetically disposed to be, it was in her genes so to speak! I've learned a lot about life through my amazing girl. I've learned to accept a lot of things that I struggled with. I've learned to say "it is what it is" and really mean it, and I've learned that even girly girls like to be Batman too!

Until next time,
Blessings!
