Wow, I can't believe that we are actually almost at the end of May! Where did this month go to? Wasn't it just yesterday that I was celebrating my birthday and Mother's Day? Now, in a couple days...two to be exact, my baby girl will graduate!
This will most likely be my last post for the month..well, maybe LOL...seriously though, my sister will be coming in to visit and attend Mandi's graduation and we have a ton of stuff planned...good picture taking opportunities too!!
I really don't like posting without something to share, and I finally got around to photographing my Cambodia mini album that I finished up a couple months back so I figure I will share it here for you. I'm not sure if Blogger allows for putting "albums" into our blogs like you can in Typepad (another reason I'm considering making a move) and I've tried to investigate but I can't find how to do it so I have them uploaded in Photobucket instead!
This mini album was sooooo much fun to create. I used a ton of techniques that I learned by helping t.a. for Debby Schuh at CKU Chicago this past March. The album itself is made of chipboard. I had originally planned on using my Bind-It-All for the binding but the darn thing wound up being too FAT!!! so, instead I had to use large binder rings. The pages are Bazzill cardstock to which I added my patterned papers etc. Most of this album consists of the K & Co. Wild Saffron line, but I did find some Fancy Pants papers and schtuff that does match pretty well so I threw them in here and there!
I tried to pick pictures that best depicted our stay in Cambodia. Focusing on each thing we did each day and let me tell you, that was a job in itself! Between the four of us I think we had 15 disks of pictures...thousands of them!! I also incorporated some hidden journaling and some homemade pockets to hold things like money, ticket stubs, etc...
All in all I am really happy with how this turned out! Oh yeah, another thing I did was take a journal with me. Each night after we got back to the hotel, I would write down the days events. That was HUGE for me when it came time to make this book. I was able to re-call all we did, feelings, etc. I typed my journaling onto the computer and did printouts for the album but I then took my original journal pages and have included them in one of my memento pockets...soooo glad I did that!!
I think you just have to click on the picture and it will take you to Photobucket and show you the album....I think! LOL
That's all for me today.....
Until next time,
Blessings!

What is I*rie?????
She is!!!!!!!

This is my bff Mary. I've know Mary forevah!!!! and a day!!! Seriously. We met about 21 years ago! From pretty much the moment we met we were friends. Our husbands (boyfriends at the time) were in a band together, her Jim was the drummer, my Roger was the lead guitarist. We spent almost every weekend together...most days during the summer and when we were not hanging with each other, we were on the phone. Mary stood up for me in my wedding, Roger and I stood up for Jim and her wedding. Mary was the one and only person I called right before I left my house at 2:00 a.m. in total labor with Mandi, and the first person (besides my mom who would have died had I not called) that I called when Mandi was born. Needless to say, Mary has been a constant in my life for a very long time.
I'm blessed with her friendship in so many ways. She is this amazingly free spirit, a genuinely loving soul and a fabulous and most talented artist! She and I have the kind of friendship that even if we go for awhile and not talk on the phone (we always email), we pick up right as if we had just spoken to each other the previous day! She has helped talk me through some of my most psychotic moments LOL, and I've been there to listen to her reason out things in her life.
Yesterday Mary and I hooked up for a day together. It's hard with our lives to actually physically connect with one another, but we had this on the books and, YAY!, we actually followed through (no sore arms, no funerals, no sick kids or last minute jobs)...We decided to go downtown to a fabulous little restaurant, a raw food restaurant. Now, you ask, what is a raw food restaurant? It's just what the title implies...raw food, nothing cooked...all organic and vegan! My favorite dish is the ravioli. It is a basil scented ravioli, stuffed with a macadamia cream and topped with a sun-dried tomato puree..it is cold, is is delish!! and, no, it's not made from pasta cause that would me it was cooked..right? The "pasta" shell of it is created with very thin slices (almost sheer) of turnips! soooooo yummy....man, I want some now! We finished off with some shopping at the little cafe/boutique attached to the restaurant where I bought myself some hemp truffles (yep, I said hemp, and no, not that kinda hemp..no high but just from the delicious raw chocolate itself!) and some coconut crackers...crackers made out of raw coconut, almonds, honey, tahini and vanilla bean.
We then traveled up toward the burbs, hitting a coffee house for some chai tea lattes and then a visit to this cute organic general store that Mary has some of her paintings and fabric creations on consignment at! There I bought this cute black and white tote bag (not realizing when I picked it up that Mary had made it), and some "green" tennis shoes...not the color green but made from all organic and recycled materials! They look just like Chuck Taylors, I love them!!
We headed back to Mary's house and I then came home..bummer LOL! it was an awesome day spent with a great friend!
I took the picture of Mary while we were having lunch and was inspired to scrap last night..that is what I came up with! Mary loves to use the word "Irie" a lot so I thought it fitting to use it in a layout about her...
Used Bazzill, Scenic Route patterned papers, and coordinating buttons, Melissa Francis lace, Heidi Swapp bling, Technique Tuesday bracket stamp, Black Stazon ink, MM Tiny Alphas, and my new Martha Stewart butterfly punch (her punches rock...just got a few of them the other day!)
So, there it is! Thanks for a most i*rie day yesterday Mary! I'm already looking foward to coming and visiting you at the cafe next month..better get learning that espresso machine! LOL!!
Until next time,
Blessings

Sad.....
i'm having a rough night. all of a sudden I have this huge sadness over Mandi. she's growing up too fast. i wanna stop the clock. i want her to be my little girl for just awhile longer, not some high school teeny bopper who thinks her mom is a dork! LOL
man, I need to go to bed huh? I just feel like it's all going way to fast and I can't control it anymore, I know, I know, but you know what I mean....one minute she was this little peanut and now she's gonna be 15 and in high school and talking about driving and college and her own apartment!! Wow, motherhood hurts huh? LOL...really, this is the hard part...the letting go, not the diapers and 2 a.m. feedings and terrible two's...this is the hard part....

Okay, maybe I need to seriously go to bed...
until next time,
Blessings!

This boy....
Was the subject of my latest foray into scrapbooking. I spent some time last week and did another layout for my Ozzi album. I took this photo of him about a month or so ago, and I just love it. I love how his little nose is all in focus, I love his little nose!
Used some Bazzill of course, the patterned paper I can't remember who makes it..sorry...I also tried my hand at some Glimmer Mists, using them on the chipboard bracket that I had painted black. Man, those things are fun! Thank you Tracy and Amy for the pointers on how to use them so you don't get all those little splotches! the rub-ons were My Minds Eye and I used a combination of Thickers and rub-ons for the title! Pretty simple. Oh yeah, the rub-ons say "Strong" "Brave" "Loyal" (this layout didn't want to photograph well...)

I really like doing the 6 x 12 size! so, there ya have it, another layout for the album...cha ching!
Other than that, life is pretty much just grooving along as it should. I've recovered from all my muscle woes and happy to say that I've been working out with the trainer and it feels great! Don't know if there is much of a change at this point...heck, it's only been a few weeks...but, mentally, I feel good. One bonus is that I have made some much needed changes to my diet, adding in a heck of a lot more protein than I had been previously eating (which, was about zero!! yikes!!), and I've really increased my water intake a ton! I was someone who could go (now, don't fall over when you read this), with one glass of water a week..maybe??!! I know, I know...but as of today and as of about 2 weeks ago, I am at about 88 oz. of water a day...that's right people, a day!!!!!
On the family front, Miss Mandi is set to graduate in a week...A WEEK!! I still can't wrap my brain around the fact that pretty soon I'll have a daughter in high school! We are on offical countdown, as last Monday was her last Monday...yesterday was her last 10th hour, you get the picture?? Next week it's all fun and games and total picture taking opportunites for me! Yahoo, scrappy material, here we come!
This is the announcement that Chris Jenkins so fabulously designed for me. Chris also took the photos. Chris was raising money to help benefit a young man that she knows who was in a terrible accident and was going to need some pretty hefty reahb. All the monies she collected for her work were being donated to the family...how cool is she? Anyways, when I read on her blog that she was doing this, I immediately asked her to design an announcement for Mandi that I could send to my family and friends. I just love her talent!! Thanks Chris!!

I'm also excited to say that Chris will once again be in the area and we are doing another shoot with her!! Yahoo!! this time we are heading into the city, should be a blast!!
alright then, I suppose that's it. I've switched out the tune again...this time it's a song I'm loving at the moment "Stay Beautiful"...just really digging it right now! so.....
until next time,
Blessings!

Waxing Nostalgic!
I tell ya, sometimes life just throws something at you, serendipitously and wow!
so, let's let the story begin:
When I was 16 years old and a sophomore in high school, I met a girl named Mary. We became instant best friends and would spend the next 14 years entwined into each others lives. Mary was a bridesmaid in my wedding, I in hers, she was around when I had my daughter Amanda and I for her son Peter, but, strangely enough, we somehow just drifted away. Maybe it was lives as new moms and the distance we had then lived from each other, who knows, but the fact is we just stopped talking! We didn't have a fight per se, it was definitely a weird situation and maybe neither of us knew how to fix it?? Who knows....so, for the next 14 years, we never spoke nor saw each other.
A couple weeks ago my mother's best friend's husband, Mr. Harloff, passed away. I attended the wake for Mr. H, I have know Mr. and Mrs. Harloff all my life. I had my suspicions as to whether Mary might be at this wake as well because she had become close friends with Mrs. Harloff's daughter Pam. ( I would hear updates now and again on stuff because my mom and Mrs. H (Pam's mom) were friends and she would see Mary now and again). I entered the wake and looked around and didn't see Mary. Figured that we would be there at different times is all. As I was about to leave, I glanced behind me and sure enough, there was Mary and her hubby Peter! We both looked at each other and smiled and that was it! We talked, we hugged and the distance had been broken.
The next day would be the funeral. Unfortunately I was not able to attend it but my mother, of course, did. While there, Mary approached my mom and gave her information to my mom, asking her to forward it to me and that she'd love to talk! I emailed Mary and we set up a date to meet for lunch and catch up!
We met yesterday! I have to admit, I was still a bit nervous, after all, it had been so long and I know that I am no where near the same person as I was 14 years ago, and would we feel comfortable talking or would it be weird??? Well, almost immediately it was like old times. I felt really comfortable talking to Mary! She hasn't changed a bit, still looks as young and as fun as she ever was!! I swear, she just hasn't aged a bit!!
We sat and talked for almost 3 1/2 hours, catching up on our lives, our families, our hobbies etc. It was nice. We even set a date to get together again, this time with the kids! When I got home, I wanted to email Mary and say thanks for the nice afternoon and that I was happy we had gotten back in touch and how fun it was! Mary beat me to the punch and sent me that same email LOL!!
I'm sitting here now and it makes me smile to think that people can come in and out of our lives at times we least expect and how cool that is! I have a lot of history with Mary...most of my teen life is filled with experiences I shared with her. I'm just glad to be able to talk with her again and maybe, just maybe, we will find some new experiences that I will look back on in the years to come.
So, Mary, thanks! Thanks for giving my mom your info, thanks for the wonderful catching up we had yesterday, thanks for the smiles today when I remember....the conversation hearts, the Cadbury eggs, the movie "10" with Cathy reading her book, the American Gigolo (we saw it like 100 times right?? LOL), Almanzo Wilder (remember him...the hottie on Little House??), for our crushes on Mark, for drinking whiskey spiked coke at the Marshall Field's parking lot, for raccoons and mice, spring break in Florida and all the other wild crap we did together! But most of all, thanks for the return of a friend!
(photo taken 1981)
and, for old times sake, I've switched out the tunage for you...is purple still your favorite color??? LOL
Until next time,

Sore stinks!
It's been a week now and I think I'm finally feeling back to normal. Last week, my trainer decided to kick my ever lovin' ass during my upper body workout...oh my heck, I'm not kidding you when I say being sore stinks! Literally I couldn't move my arms, for freakin' days!!! It sucked!! I spent my birthday barely able to lift a champaign glass to my lips (but, I managed, even though it hurt, cause, hello...it's champaign!!!) and scrapbooking or computer time...fuggidaboutit!!!! but I'm happy to report that as of today, one week later, I am finally feeling almost a 100 percent! Almost!! I'm still a little stiff on the left side but no worries, I'm sure in a couple more days I'll be right as rain! My motto lately has been "Fitness Sucks".....
So, yeah, had a birthday. Getting older. Hating that! It seems like each year the birthdays arrive faster and faster...slow down will ya...but, I had a nice one nonetheless. Roger was able to make it home (he has missed a couple over the years and baby that I am, it always bums me out!) and we had a really nice weekend. Got some cool gifties, and went out for a nice dinner. Mother's Day came and went. Roger left that morning and so I just hung out with Miss Mandi. Played some Mario Kart (I was actually able to play it on Sunday...hadda watch on Friday and Saturday as the arms weren't moving and that bout killed me!) and then Mom came over and we went out for dinner. All in all a really nice weekend!
Yesterday my bff Carol and I headed out for a lunch to celebrate, we are so like children when we get together...needless to say, I'm sure the rest of the restaurant patrons were happy to see us leave! LOL!!
Today, the pool opened!! Yay!!! Now, if summer would just arrive so that we can actually use it, all would be right with my world! Course, I still need a few more (heck, more than a few) sessions with Neil until I'm bathing suit ready but it does look nice to peek out into the backyard and see the pool, all full and ready!
So, there it is. Not too exciting but you are all up to date with my world. I'm hoping to get scrappy in the room and make a little something something, so,
Until next time,
Blessings!

Scrapping Crap!
LOL! Actually, that is what this layout here is! I entered a challenge that my friend Simone had going on her blog Scrap Your Crap! The crap she sent to me was the green paper lace. I admit, at first I was like..humm..what am I doing with this?!! Actually, I waited until 3 days before the deadline and this idea came to me. I guess it pays to procrastinate huh? While in Malaysia this past January, we visited a temple and these two beautiful men allowed us to take their picture! I have this huge fascination with monks. The sight of them literally stops me in my tracks and I saw so many of them in Cambodia and Malaysia. Typically, monks do not get close to women at all! These men actually allowed me to sit in front of them and have my picture taken as well, and I can't tell you how special that was for me! For this layout, I stamped my cardstock with a flourish stamp, then added the scalloped Bazzill piece, some Hambly transparency, the green paper lace onto which I added some cream paper ribbon by Creative Imaginations. I had collected some chopsticks from the airport lounge in Japan and decided to paint them to match the one monks robe, using a quote from Buddha and a chinese symbol clip art, I printed onto transparency and painted with the same matching color to finish it off! I'm really pleased with how this all came together, just a simple layout....

I had to wait until today to post it though. You should go check out the Scrap Your Crap blog, there are some seriously cool projects that the other players created in this challenge!
This is actually the first real challenge I've ever participated in and I had a great time with it! Thanks Simone!!
Until next time,
Blessings!
oh yeah...HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!!!! Gonna have me a Corona tonight to help celebrate!! Rock on!

Two VIP's...
Happy May!! Yeehaw! I love, love, love this month! Okay, so it is my birth month but even so, I just love May, the time of year, the name of the month..May...so short and cute, it just sounds happy doesn't it?!
I switched up my tuneage...still "head banging" as a friend told me LOL, but, it is what it is right?? Got my all time favorite Metallica song...their version of Bob Seger's Turn the Page...love it!! Also added some Queensryche, Tesla, Ozzy, Warrant..humm..oh yeah Autograph...so, enjoy ya'll!! Seriously, if you've not heard the Metallica version, give it your ear..you won't be sorry..so totally FAB-YOU-LUSS!!!
Alrighty then, on to my two VIP's...yes maam...Very Important Person/Puppy! I can't share with ya'll my challenge piece that I did for the Scrap Your Crap challenge at my pal Simone's site, until the 5th (I thought it was the first..sorry!) so instead, I am going to post a pic I took of my most favorite vip's a couple weekends ago! Seriously folks, I NEED some photo help! As snapshots go I do ok, but I want better than that! I saw that Karen Russell will be opening registration for her online photo class on May 5th...might just have to try my hand at getting a spot in that.

see, lighting is off, shadows on the face but me likey it anyways...think it will be one I scrap this weekend!! Oh yeah, still need to pull myself together for that..sheesh!
Not much else to report, so......
until next time,
Blessings!
